Shinsekai

There's a whole lot to Japan, but the two contrasts that often come to mind are modern, futuristic places juxtaposed by centuries-old shrines, castles and temples. There's a rarer middle bridge in time best embodied by Shinsekai in Osaka. Called it retrofuturism, or an anachronism, Shinsekai has an intriguing history. In the early 1900s, it was developed around the Tsutenkaku Tower, inspired by Eiffel Tower, as a way to keep up with the times of the western world. Following the WW2, the Tower was rebuilt, and the area to this day has a feel of what post-War Japan may have thought of as futuristic.
